History of Doughboy Swimming pool kits America
During World War II Domain Industries, through its packaging machinery operation, perfected rubber sealing and won the Army contract to seal K-rations. K-rations were a “meal in a can” carried by United States soldiers during battle. During World War II, the United States soldiers were known as Doughboys.
In 1947, Domain Industries formally named their packaging machinery operation the Doughboy Plastics Division. Doughboy Plastics Division was created specifically to enter the outdoor family entertainment market by manufacturing inflatable splasher pools, toys and beach balls. Years later, they changed the name to Doughboy Recreational. Hoffinger Industries bought Doughboy Recreational from Domain Industries in 1974. Hoffinger Industries is founded and owned by Marty Hoffinger, who in 1945 invented one of the first above ground pool filter.
Doughboy Recreation, a division of Hoffinger Industries, is still in the rubber sealing business. Our Therma-Seal technology results in a liner seam that is actually stronger than the liner material itself – enabling us to provide a 100% lifetime warranty against seam failures. We are also the only pool manufacturer in the world that actually makes everything it sells from raw materials.
Our production takes place in our 660,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Arkansas. Here we continually explore new design concepts and product advances. We start with the basics - the raw materials. Starting with raw materials allows us to monitor all phases of the production process, assuring everything meets our stringent standards of quality. Kafko™ Manufacturing was founded in 1971 by Karl Koolan, Andy Deregt and Frank Phipps. The companies name being derived from the first initial of each of the founders first names: Karl, Andy, Frank, forming KAFKO which is short for the Karl, Andy, Frank Company. Each of these three individuals brought different experience and knowledge to Kafko™ all having all participated in the early development of the swimming pool industry in manufacturing, retail and distribution respectively.
After 5 years, Karl Koolan departed the company. Shortly thereafter, Jan Deregt and Bill Kindness joined as partners and the company expanded outside Canada. In 1979 Kafko™ opened the first of 4 U.S. locations in Atlanta, Georgia. Between 1979 and 2002 Kafko™ expanded to 5 U.S. locations including two that came via acquisition
Titan® Polymer Pool & Multi-flex® SystemThe Titan® Polymer Pool and Multi-flex® Panel System are made of stable, non bio-degradable polymer foams, which greatly increase the longevity of the panel. In addition, the cellular structure of the panel acts as a thermal screen helping to insulate the pool water from the surrounding soil.
The Titan® Polymer Swimming Pool - NEW FOR 2009!
Titan® Polymer panels used with Titan® Braces provide a combination of vertical and horizontal support to form the Titan® Grid, which is able to stabilize your pool even where severe forces like frost heave and ground water pressure exist. Titan® Polymer Pools combine the rugged engineering of a molded box-flange panel with the benefits of completely non-corrosive Structural Polymer, which means you can install a Titan® Pool where soil conditions prevent the use of conventional steel. Titan® Polymer Pools are available in numerous shapes and sizes, including the always popular Lagoon and Mountain Pond shapes.
The Multi-flex® Panel System Swimming pool
Kafko’s patented Mutiflex panel was the first flexible panel system created for use in swimming pools and as a result received an engineering and design award from the Society of The Plastics Industry. The Multi-flex® panel features a live hinge design which allows bending the panel into almost any radius. Double resin strapping secures the panel into True Radius form. We offer many standard shapes or design your own completely unique shape. The choices are endless with the Multi-flex® Panel system
Wall and Deck Support System
The Kafko Swimming pool kit heavy duty wall brace system is designed to hold the pool walls in place, giving maximum support. The convenient ground stakes secure the panels from any movement before the pouring of concrete. This guarantees a properly squared pool wall. The brace also allows for the attachment of a sono tube which will help carry the deck load and add strength to the overall pool structure.
Skimmer and Light Options
Pre-molded skimmer and light panels are available for both straight and curved walls. These panels are marked and reinforced so that the skimmer or light is positioned correctly and securely. Straight panels are designed with reinforced areas for returns
